Extended studs with stock setup
Guys, planning on getting ARP extended studs for the front (Have a set of rays wheels which may need a 2-3mm spacer to clear the sprint kit).
If at some point in the future I wish to sell the car and return it to stock, will the OEM lug nuts and stock wheels fit over the extended studs? |
Not likely. The OEM lugs are closed types, so they'll only thread on so far before bottoming out on the stud. with extended studs, that is not likely to be far enough to actually get the wheel tight.

fair enough but without any actual measurements i suppose its just speculation. if someone can confirm that would be greatly appreciated.

how much longer are the arp studs? oem studs are fairly cheap so you can always press out the arp ones and put in new oem ones.

Reference: http://www.licmotorsports.com/produc...rxsti_100-7716 @RedLeader is probably right but would like confirmation. Here is a picture for comparison. http://www.itrexpo.com/users/dave/brz/stud2.jpg |
oem lug nuts would not fit, but i believe you can get oem length studs for about 1.50 each. if you sell the car and want to use the oem lug nuts, just replace the studs. otherwise get open ended lug nuts, i doubt any second owner would notice/care.

I dont have any measurements either, but if you took a stock 86 and just removed a wheel nut, you'll see that the lenght of oem stud sticking out is pretty much the same as the depth of your oem nut. Now if you imagine the much longer ARP stud there, i'd say no way you're gonna fully tighten your factory wheel using the oem nut. Maybe if you can fit an appropriate sized hub-centric spacer behind the factory wheel it would work. Just my 2c.

Ideally I'd like extended studs with a 3mm hubcentric spacer. But honestly I just hate the idea of spacers altogether. |

that is correct. oem uses tapered lugs, not acorn
|
No need to change studs just to run a 2-3mm spacer.
