e85 question.
So have a question.. This is my first go at using e85 in a flashed car. Maybe 3 or 4 times or so I have accidentally started the car with my pump gas map instead of the correct one. One of the times it was driven out of the parking lot then I had realized what I had done and shut it off.
I have noticed when I kill the car and go to switch maps its pegged for a e85 map instead of the default 1. Not sure how it knows to switch. Do I need to worry about anything other then the car just running like garbage when I forget, maybe possible long term damage? Since I'm never use the analog speedo I'm going to put a little sticky there for now. |
Should not be any issues. I had to drive on pump gas for 80+ miles with the e85 tune...not recommended but laptop was dead.
I don't know what you mean by kill it then it remembers the map. Are you stalling it and just turning the key to start? It should not remember the map you are on if you completely shut off the car. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
Killing it by turning the key off. So what happens is if this is all with in 30 seconds or so... 1. kill the car after accidentally starting it on wrong map. 2.Go to turn the car back on but before you do go to change the map. Notice its on the map it was on, before you turned the car off prior to accidentally starting it on the wrong map.
Kinda weird old school bogus Nintendo controller cheat code style stuff. like the pedal dance trick. Maybe its just a bug in the software that its doing that who knows. Wondering more about the affects on the motor with the wrong map. |
Can't wait for actual flex fuel. This type of thing makes me want to avoid e85 entirely until there is a flex fuel solution available.

Their are flex fuel kits available from Visconti and FA20club

There is and the only reason I have not picked them up is due to the class I race in does not allow it.

You should be fine if you just drove it for a little bit.. don't WOT and you got nothing to worry about.. I drove several miles with a full tank of E85 (on my 93 tune), from the E85 station to the dyno when I got my E85 tune. |
@reeves i completely agree....i done the same thing plenty of times

Cool thanks everyone.

the maps reset everytime?
I thought if you turn your car off on a certain map (e85) map, when you come back it would still be on it? or does automatically go to the default 1 map? |
None of the tuners have been able to find out how to make the map number stay after the car is shut off. I know John was working on a switch that would accomplish similar results. At least the last I read.

Some cars will remember the last map you were on and some don't. To my knowledge they don't know why it happens on some cars and doesn't on others.
My car switches back to map 1 everytime I turn it off. |

ECUTek always defaults back to Map 1 upon startup, but if you quickly shutdown/startup, it apparently doesn't get a chance to clear it (not sure what the threshold is though). |
