Driver door alignment issue--fixed

I noticed the drivers door upper hinge area was mis-aligned with the front quarter panel, enough so that the door edge would just start to touch the panel when opening/closing. It was almost as if someone had sat on the door when fully open. (4500 miles, pampered and absolutely no door abuse on my end.) Apologies for no pics--it would have been easy to show...
To their credit the local dealer had it fixed within an hour with the body shop doing "re-alignmnet" on the door. I wondered if this was at all common--the service writer also wondered if there was info in the "forums" about this. Ahh, the joys of a first year model!

don't think i've heard of anybody else with this issue, but glad to hear you got it fixed!

I have a gap on the passenger side door to the fender. I haven't had a chance to go back in but there are others who have had this problem.

Is THIS similar to what you get?

No. I saw that while searching around but that's not my issue.

Imagine if the leading upper edge of the drivers door were protruding outward when closed, almost acting like a small air scoop. Then, when closing the door, it would make contact with the adjacent fender edge mid-swing. Just picked up the car and the hinge/door orientation is perfect. I assume it was a "loosen hinge/alingn gaps/tighten hinge" type of fix...

I have what Ro Ja has.

I have the same issue with my 2013 FR-S on the driver's side. I took it in to the dealer today so we'll see...

I leaned over mine once to clean something off the windshield, and apparently pushed in the fender so that it rubbed the front edge of the door when opening and closing as you described. I just opened the door again and grabbed the edge of the fender and pulled it back out. There was a fair amount of play in it, such that I pulled it out too far and had to push it back in a little to line it up properly.

The rubbing even took off a little paint on the front edge of the door, but I touched it up so that you can't even tell now. And I'm very careful not to lean into the fender any more.

Hmm... Interesting. The dealer is having a body shop check out my car in this case (I didn't lean on it).

Update - Scion of Kirkland had it fixed for me! I can't even tell there was paint wear or misalignment of the door with respect to the quarter panel now.

I had the same issue. I fixed it by gently pulling the front quarter panel out at the door seam. Perfect match now.

This is actually pretty common with new cars. It used to be that the dealers would have to align the panels when they received the cars. With todays closer tolerances they only generally do it when a customer requests it. If you have any panel alignment issues the dealer will usually be good about fixing it.
