new to tuning, who to go with?
 

Did a little research on the forums and noticed there are plenty to go with.

I'm leaning on visconti, but here are my plans.

Im currently running a drop in filter because I'm not going to waste money on a intake system that does nothing.

Im also running a full header back. Motiv overpipe and hfc and perrins' unres catback.

I might go supercharged in the future, but I want to wait and check out my options and get a game plan.

I would like something easy to use that wont blow upp my car. And no, im not trackin right now.

I've only tried Visconti but I've had zero issues and highly recommend this tune.

how do you go about getting the tune? did you go to a shop? does it plug into the car and you drive with it so the tune learns the car ? rookie over here too but did a little research

Go to a local reputable tuner if at all possible. The drift office should be local to you, they seem to have some solid results on this platform comparable to any of the other tuners here.

If possible a tune made to order would be best.

How you get a tune from Visconti is you pay him, he sends you the hardware, a flash drive and obd2 to usb cable, you then install somesoft ware onto a windows laptop, then you email him and he sends you the tune. You use the cable and laptop to load it into your ECU. I was nervous the first time because Ive heard horror stories but Ive never had an issue. The very few that have were taken care of very quickly by both John and Ecutek.

You may have to repeat that process a couple of times, as they may have to "tweak" the tune a bit to optimize it for your specific car.

Alright that kinda gives me a good start on where to go. So far I have touched base with a local performance shop who installed my exhaust.

We talked about it a little, but we pretty much talked about all the risks associated with tuning. Not to scare me off, but just to let me know what happens with some folks cars. Especially, when they dont know what they are doing and fry their ecu...yikes

Ive hearg pretty good things about visconti, however. I would like to see how much cost all this crap entails and if its worth it, or just hype.

Here's how you purchase the flash from Visconti Tuning. I've posted both the pump gas only kit and the pump gas + e85 kit. Both kits include the cable, the license and the maps - everything you need to perform the tune yourself.

If you have e85 in your area, then you'll absolutely want to get the kit that has both the pump gas map and e85 map. The e85 map will give you about 25-30 whp, so it's much better to take advantage of e85 if it's available in your area :).

Here's a run down of the four maps you'll get and their features (applicable to both pump gas and e85 maps):

Map 1 - Tune + Stock Rev Limiter
Map 2 - Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + Launch Control + Flat Foot Shifting
Map 3 - Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + Launch Control + Flat Foot Shifting + RaceRom Traction Control
Map 4 - Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + Launch Control + Flat Foot Shifting + More Agreesive RaceRom Traction Control

Im not sure about e85 in the seattle area. But, when you make that convertion doesnt o e have to replace all their fuel system components to run the E85?.

On my phone, links are not working for me atm.

I hear replacing the fuel system is not cheap. Could be wrong though.

No modifications are required. Just make sure it's an empty tank before you fill with e85 (and switch maps).

Funny thing about our cars (FRS/BRZ), no fuel system changes are necessary to run e85. While the long-term effects haven't been tested..(i.e. the car has only been out for 10 months or so), the only drawback seen from e85 so far has been a loss of mpg. So no worries about additional costs for fuel system. Just need the right tune to run it.
