Dealer disabled DRLs = no high beams?
Like the title says, last weekend I brought my FR-S into the dealer to get a 2nd set of tail lights installed due to the condensation issue, and decided to ask about having the DRLs disabled. The tech says he'll look into it and takes my car in for the install. I get the car back a couple hours later and he says he disabled the DRLs already. Cool, right? Well, tonight was my first time driving after dark and when I flip the stalk to turn on the brights nothing happens. I stopped and checked from outside and when the brights are off there is no light coming from the bulb and when I turn on the brights there is a little glow visible, but not much, and the projectors stay on. I forgot that my car was one of the early models that probably needs the new ECU to disable the DRLs properly. Anyone else run into this?
TL/DR: dealer disabled DRLs without replacing ECU, now the brights are too dim to be effective. |
You probably have a early build (like less than 6000 vin). You need to find the TSB on here about this issue, but basically the dealer will replace your ECU with a upgraded ECU that allows you to disable the DRL and keep your high beams.

Just curious- why would you want to disable your DRLs? Just for looks?
