break-in for the automatic brz/frs
I've read a lot about break-in about the twins but all of them are the manual transmission. For the automatic i understand that we also need to keep it below 4000rpm and no constant speed, however, i find that if i just leave it in auto, most of my rpm is in the 1300-2000rpm range. Is that too low? Do i have to keep the rpm ABOVE a certain range during break-in? Also, should i use manual mode during the break-in period? I currently have 600km (under 400 miles).
btw i'm following the break-in in the manual so no hard break-in. I'd rather follow Subaru and Porche boxer engine break-in rpm range. |
I personally kept my Auto below 4000rpm and didn't use the slap shift much. I pretty much "babied it" until I hit the 1000k mark. Personally, I think you'll be fine following the method you are. Happy driving and stay safe.

Yeah that's about right. The key is to not keep it at constant speeds/rpms. You want to vary the RPMs either via manually shifting the AT or by just punching it every now and again.

pretty much, what the other's said. When i went through the break in period in mine i just kept it below 4k RPM and didn't ease on the pedal much just kinda let it bounce around a bit. Mostly did city driving. If i was on a long stretch of road that stayed the same i would just downshift about every 10 min to make the rev's go up for awhile and then back down. Almost at 13,000 miles now, haven't had any issues.
