A hot lap of Thunderhill in my stock 2013 Subaru BRZ
Here is a lap from last Monday in my 2013 Subaru BRZ Limited. :D
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdZY1l08veM"]Stock 2013 Subaru BRZ @ Thunderhill 02/25/13 Toyota GT86 Scion FR-S - YouTube[/ame] The BRZ was on the original Michelin Primacy "Prius" tires and aligned to -1.4 degrees of camber front and rear with zero toe. The brake pads were changed to Ferodo DS2500 and the lines were flushed with Motul RBF600. Laptime: 2:15.87 |
Very nice! I hope to bring the FRS up there once I break it in.

Nice lap, looked pretty fast! Thanks for sharing this!

very nice, and fastest (near) stock lap of a BRZ at THill that I've seen... mine is similar specs but the day in December I went it was rainy and damp and I wasn't nearly as fast. :(

I plan to run the OEM tires as well with the SSL lines and blue Ate already on the car. Pads are < than week turnaround. I was not tempted to get an alignment but I'm learning otherwise. Thanks for sharing. |
Aww man, you're in Pleasanton! Hello neighbor, San Ramon here
|
Awesome driving! That's fast for stock tires!!! :eyebulge:

WOW! FANTASTIC DRIVING! The benchmark has been set.
Were you able to get the -1.4 camber with the stock bolts, or did you have to get an aftermarket kit? |
Hey, thanks for the compliments guys! This car is a lot of fun and pretty intuitive to drive on the stock suspension/tires.
With regards to the alignment, it was done with camber bolts. I do not believe there is any stock adjustment. The tires only exhibited minor tread block scrubbing at 32 psi cold all around. The idea was that if I went to the track with zero camber, I would have probably ruined the tires in just one day due to edge wear. In response to MyRx, my perception is that I was at the limit of the stock tires in all the corners and braking zones. I think I could go just a little faster if I were to rush shifts or run up further on the curbs, but I try not do either of those things in daily driven street cars. :D By the way, if anybody knows of a shop (i.e. CSG, Robi, Evasive, etc.) that is interested in a driver for time attack/racing/testing, I'd be very interested in the opportunity! Thank you, Sean Quote:

nice driving.....very fast lap.....clearly the camber + upgraded brakes translate to much faster lap times.....I would also guess that the slightly more understeer bias of the BRZ helps at Thunderhill too.....

The extra -0.75 camber over a stock alignment may have improved front traction a little, but the main benefit was better tire wear. The lack of rear toe in compared to stock specifications was probably just as large of a factor in making the car more neutral. I thought the BRZ was nicely balanced at the track for a street car. It did understeer a bit as you mentioned. I haven't tracked an FRS for comparison but would love to try one given the opportunity! |
I just ran both my bypass video and your video side by side (comparing 1-4 & 6-15). We were identical. But I had the advantage due to tires so your skill made up for lack of grip. Excellent! :respekt:
I have work to do. |

I like comparing stock tire times since not everyone upgrades to the same rubber (and all the car magazine tests are done on the Primacy's so it gives you a benchmark to shoot for). |
WOW!" Great.....a nice circuit....beautiful the downhill section.....finest!!!!!
What do you think about R1-R and/or Toyo R888GG on BRZ? |
