Crank pulley bolt
I don't remember reading much on whether the crank pulley bolt should be replaced when going with aftermarket pulleys. I have the 3-piece GFB set installed and it has been on the car for almost a month with no issues. No wobble, no leak. The stock crank pulley bolt was re-used. I keep hearing differing opinions on whether this part should be replaced or not. It's only $8-$9 and would probably make me feel better if I did replace it. I'm worried about bolt stretch/fatigue.

There are some folks who suggest replacing any bolt that you take out, not just crank pulley ones. I guess if you're typically checking your pulley with every maintenance to make sure it's still on securely, you should be fine with the stock bolt. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will stick with the stock bolt.

If the bolt is torque to yield you'll have to replace it. This bolt is torqued to a specific torque setting, not an angle so it's very doubtful you'll have to replace it. I know one companies instructions say to replace it if you reach the final torque setting with less then 45 degrees between the last two steps. This has got to be a typo. If you go over a certain amount it could easily indicate the bolt is yield (breaking). Not to mention 45 deg is pretty arbitrary.
All in all, you should be fine. |
Thanks
