Burning smell when front defrost is turned on
Is anyone else getting a strong burning smell when they turn their front defrost on? I've got ~4K miles so I'm pretty sure it's not the normal break-in burning smell.

I have noticed this a couple times, but it seems to have subsided in the last 2 weeks. Still monitoring it though.

Possibility?
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26197 I get a burning smell through my HVAC from this if the car is not moving (until it burns off). |
mine had smelled like burning rubber....haven't smelled it since it was in for new fuel pump. Crickets are back after 1 week so I can only imagine the unidentified burning smell will also return. (I don't think they are related at all) just odds of reoccurring issues runs high. =)

Yup, I have it. I think its the AC rather than the demister particularly.
|
Hmmm, haven't turned my AC on in a while - will try and see if that causes the burning smell also.

my old tc had a horrible burning smell when i used the defrosters or heat. it was as if something went down through the vents and died/got stuck/whatever. I had to spray a little lysol down into the vent once in a while with the fans on to make it smell better.

Yeah, I get a smell when using the defroster or the defogger... so pretty much every day..
|
I got it with the AC also - think I'll ask the service department guys to take a look when I take it in for 5000 mile service.

Keep in mind if any oil is spilled even a little drop like let's say around the filler cap it could run down to the exhaust manifold after heating up and it takes quite a bit to fully burn off synthetic oil. Had fun chasing leaks on my sw20 I had one that was a very slight drip from the turbo charger oil return line it was only a droplet but it would pool heat up after a drive and drip onto the down pipe. I would park let it cool and then heat back up and drip after a drive keep in mind turbos also generate more heat than an n/a engine.

I also noticed a burning rubber smell with the heat on. Only noticed it a couple of times yesterday while stopped at a red light. Drove it today with no smell. Its not from oil or any other fluid as far as I can tell (no leaks) It is a burning rubber smell. Not as bad as a burn out, but not normal smelling. It is coming out of the vents with the heat on. Im guessing blower motor problem.. If it gets any worse I will be digging into it myself. I HATE dealerships! They work quick, not properly. I work in a shop and have seen some brutal dealship work!
