I'm Stuck In A Dilemma
 

Alright as some of you may know, My FR-S was totaled by a lady pulling out in front of me as I was going through an intersection. Well, I've decided to get a WRB BRZ Limited Manuel to replace it. It was so hard to find one, but finally I found one coming in 600 miles away. Which worked out great, because I was going up that way the same weekend after it arrives (March 11th) at the dealership up there. That dealership is selling me the car at $29.3k.

Well by stuck of luck or whatever it is, someone traded a WRB BRZ Limited Manuel to my local dealership. The car has 1,5xx miles and was built in 07/12. Supposedly it was owned by an old man who says he didnt like it.. and judging by the miles, I believe them. My local dealer at first wanted MSRP for it and I told them to shove it. I did ask, "how about take $1000 off the price and then we can talk." But they told me no. Of course though, 4 days later I received a call this morning offering me the car at $27.3k.

What do you guys think? Should I try to get the price lowered? Would it be best to get a new car vs one that needed recalls? I'll have to search the recalls, because I want to make sure those are done to the car before if I buy.
I'm just not sure what would be best at this point.

I wouldn't worry about any recalls or SB's...the car is under warranty and SoA is obligated to keep the car current.

Unfortunately you have already shown the local dealer your hand by offering to purchase this car for $1,000 less then MSRP. I don't think you'll get far with a counter-counter offer. Personally, I would have started at $25k firm...walked away...and let them counter. You've already agreed to $28.3k.

For the $1,000 difference, go get the new one.

There are no recalls on the car. There are TSBs, which are only replaced when the problem is occurring. I have no hesitation about buying the used one now versus waiting. Even if you have to have the TSBs taken care of, they should give you a loaner, just confirm that with them before you drop it off. When I had a couple of the TSBs fixed, I waited until they were all showing the issue so the dealer would take care of them all at once. In my case, it took them 3 days to fix everything, so I was guaranteed a loaner.

Get the brand new one. No question about it. If it's like $3k or more then I'll get the used one. There's still pride, yes priDe, in getting a new one.

The fact it was driven by an old man doesn't mean a thing. I'm an old man and you have no idea how well I followed the break-in guidelines for the first 1,000 miles. If you've been on this forum for a bit you will see that the twins attract many aggressive drivers who drive their cars "like they stole" them. If that doesn't cause you second thought, go ahead and buy it. I would buy a new one.

I'd say let someone else pay new car price for a used car. $1000 will make very little difference to your monthly payment.

Purchase the NEW car. Regardless of price, there's always some sort of satisfaction knowing that you're the very first owner. Plus, these cars are in such high demand, dealers aren't willing to haggle much.

I would not hesitate to buy a used one with those kind of miles on it but not at that price. It is used therefore it has been hit with the "drive it off the lot" depreciation. That would be a minimum of 15% even for a car that is in high demand. I would offer them $26K knowing that I could buy a brand new FR-S for $25K. There are used cars on this forum right now for under $22K.

Id say its worth the wait to get a new one, especially if you plan to keep this car for more than just a couple years. Who knows how that car was driven in the first 1000 miles and its nice to know you took care of your car from the start IMO.

I think that the used one is over priced. I would probably go with the new one unless they came down another $1K or $2K on the used one and offered some maintenance with it as well. But an extra $2k will buy you some parts if you plan on modding it and are not worried about the break in period. All depends on how good of a deal it is for you.

I would purchase the new. The difference in price will not make a huge impact on ur monthly. I would never pay close to sticker for a used car.
