Keeping the OEM radio harness intact
Hi I know a lot of people are happy to cut into the OEM head unit harness, but I'm not. I like to keep it original. And I'm looking for both the male and female connectors to make my own harnesses. I'm half way there.
Some reasons for cutting into it your harness: -Aftermarket amplifier install -Aftermarket head unit install -Aftermarket rear camera install -Trick the head-unit that vehicle is not moving for gps and dialing options -Trick the head-unit that the hand brake is engaged for watching movies on the go As many of you already know from reading the wiring manual there are 4 connectors of interest: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=wiring+manual http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps85543b40.jpg D11: only e-brake is wired to it, but has the potential to wire a rear camera that will engage when the car is in reverse. http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...psd4b1b67b.jpg D12: Has a VSS wire (gps/phone trick) and mic and aux wires among other things http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps85b5a73e.jpg D13: Basically the rear speaker harness http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps31577cd7.jpg D14: Basically the front speakers, power and accesory power harness. I've found that you can buy the male and female connectors for D13 and D14 pre-wired. They are listed as Metra 70-1761 and Metra 71-1761. They are for sale on amazon. See metraonline.com I'm looking for connectors D11 and D12 pre-wired both male and female so I can make my own harnesses to add a rear camera and bypass the vss and e-brake for the head unit without splicing original wires. Anybody knows where I can get them or who makes them? Thanks. |
Here is D13 and D14 (rear and front speaker harnesses respectively):

Here is D11 (parking brake and potential for rear camera)

Here is D12 (VSS/AUX/MIC/etc...):

And finally here is the general cluster-f of wires you can expect to see after pulling the head unit (by pulling the plastic cover off and removing 4 10mm bolts)
http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps14240fea.jpg There is at least another 4 connectors going to the damn radio. I didn't even bother going into detail about them but I'm sure the wiring diagram has it covered if you're planning on swapping heads and need everything re-connected. |
I'm not sure about the 28 pin connector, but svxdc sells an adapter for the 16 pin connector you were talking about.

Can you give me a name or a picture of the tool you use to push the wires into the back of the harness? I saw a guy using one and it looks like a sharp pen tip type of thing. No idea what its called though.

That or wiring a new harness. Just don't know what the tool is called.
When I was watching the guy doing the harness work on my previous car audio build that's how he wired into the harnesses. Strip the wire abit, put some pin end on it and push it into the harness with some hook tool. |
Is the brz harness the same as the frs?

The BRZ radio is FA601US and it looks like this: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...EMheadunit.jpg |
The antenna adapter I use is Metra 40LX11

Do they make an adapter for the wiring harness at the factory amp? I'm hoping I can just pull the plug and use an adapter to connect it to my DSP and bypass the factory amp.
