Tune before 1000mi break in?
I'm thinking about getting the FA20Club ECU tune and installing it after only about 300mi on the car. Is this a bad idea and I should wait until I hit the 1000mi breaking in period? Or just go for it?

u prolly could, but id play it safe

I think you will be safe but I'd personally wait because you won't be able to explore the tune if you want to break the car in as recommended. I'd hit 1K, enjoy it for a week or two and then get the tune. That's just my $.02, but it wouldn't hurt anything.

Depends if you buy into the whole break in bs or not. If you do, then no. If you dont then yes, and be easy on the clutch a bit, since it does need a lil break in.

Ok not that bad, but how some people describe to do it sounds like landing a plane in topgun. |
I would wait. If something comes up in the first 1k miles like a CEL or any other problem you want the dealer to check out you will have to flash the ECU again before taking it in for service. I'd say finish the break in, swap fluids, then tune. I'm sure you will be happy you waited if you're keeping the car...

There is nothing a tune will do for you that will prevent you from still following the recommended break-in procedure. If your concern is about warranty issues, then you'll have that concern well beyond 1K miles.
Get the tune, and keep it under 4K for the first 1K miles, no sudden braking/flooring, etc. |
Thanks a lot everyone! I think I'm gonna hold off until after the break in. I can't control myself if I had the tune. I'd romp on it way too much.

I may sound stupid asking this but, where do you get the tune? is this something you get done at a dealership or a shop? I've never tuned a car's ECU before... and I've modded mine quite a bit with exhaust and intake, so it could use a tune.

Then decide which option is best for you, a reflash done by Visconti, FA20 Club (or any of the other vendors on here) or a piggyback setup like Unichip. All these vendors have websites where you can order the tuning equipment, and support to help get the best tune for your needs. *Generally, dealerships do not do performance tunes, and you might want to avoid announcing it to your dealership for several reasons. |
Wait it out an break the engine in
