Hawk Blue 9012 Race Pads
I have these sitting here ready to go in. Could I run these in the fronts without changing the rears? Would that be a really bad idea? This is for HPDE. I am very naive when it comes to brakes.
If not, what rear pads would you run. HP+? |
I would recommend you use DTC60/70 instead. Blue's are corrosive, and you're gonna get a very lovely etching on your wheels that you won't be able to get off. The DTC are superior in pretty much every way to the Blue.
Use the same compound front and rear. We carry pads that are easy to clean up after if that's a concern. |
Please please listen to Mike on this one. DTC's are far superior.
Maybe a DTC30 for the rear or even the HP+ |

Mike is right. Hawk Blue is great for scrubbing pad material off of a disc. In my opinion, that's about it. They are old technology. The newer DTC compounds from Hawk are better in every practical manner.

How about hawk hp+ on the fronts and hps on the back? Was thinking this along with some motul brake fluid and braided lines just for an initial upgrade until I go FI and then would consider BBK.

We have a lot of local guys that are running Carbotech XP8 or XP10 for mixed duty. It's technically race pad, but works just fine for street use. Properly bedded, noise is non-existent, and the only real downside is dust; all pads with good bite dust. I run race pads on my car year-round. |

My white GS-R was also pinkish/rustish because of them. |

I agree with all the comments. The SpecE30 guys used to love the Blues, but they are very old now, and the DTCs are the way to go if you are looking for a full track pad. If you don't plan to swap out pads after your track weekend, then stick with the HP+s, but I would still advise you to make sure you clean your wheels after each track day as they can still ruin your wheels. I did all my HPDE weekends on HP+s before getting my racing license and changing to the DTCs.
