APR Performance brake cooling solution
Just saw this on FB:

I'll be buying this if it actually works

We did some brake ducts on a project car in college, very similar in design to these (on a Mini Cooper GP) and the gains weren't in braking power, but in sustaining it. It helped the brakes cool down between hard braking cycles, which protected from boiling the fluid, and prolonged the brake fade. The fade was the biggest impact - our tests would show the braking getting worse over repeated hard cycles, but this effect improved with cooling ducts.
This is an upgrade that isn't really functional for anything but the track. However, they look BADASS and I wouldn't make fun of anyone with them on their daily driver just for the looks! |
If only brake ducts were STX legal. Not that autocross is really demanding enough to need them I guess.

It doesn't look like the backing plates are going to do a great job of directing air to the center of the rotor. You want the air to go through the vanes, not just blow in the general direction of the rotor face. A picture of them mounted would help clear that up.

I wonder if these will fit BBKs such as the Essex kits since those dust shields are smaller then stock.
I wish Essex made a ducting adapter since those are more ideal for air flow to the center. Sprint kit + Sprint air duct adapter + Just the APR front air ducts would probably be the best setup ever |

Yes, that's a great point as well. We found this to be particularly important during our testing. It needs to get directed into the center of the rotor to make use of the vanes effectively. |
Looks like I was 5 days late on this, other thread here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28354

Damn looks like it puts air on the inside face of the rotor only :(
It needs to put it into the center of the rotor. I actually expect better out of APR. |
Definitely track use only. I plan to add better pads, steel lines and new fluid when it comes time for a brake change. In normally use, how long will these pads(stock ones) last?
