dyno numbers seem low

Hey guys, i just went to the dyno today and my numbers seemed odd. 132HP @ 6400, 127ft-lb TQ @ 2500 & 4500 rpm. It was a Mustang Dyno. No clue what the AFR was. Could the winter grade fuel be the issue? The outside temp was around 8deg.

if anything you should be making more power during colder temps.

Some mustangs read low...i wouldn't worry.

Mustang dyno's usually do read lower than Dynojets. From my LS1 Vette days, I remember cars getting 20 or 30whp less on a 400whp car. Don't know if its proportional or not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that number on a Mustang dyno.

Just curious as I know nothing of these things...but if this Mustang system is known for giving low numbers, doesn't that equate to the system being basically worthless?

What would be the point of having a system designed to measure HP that always measures lower than it really is? It's like using a broken thermometer to check your temperature.

It's basically worthless if you want to have numbers to brag about, yes.

But that's not the purpose of a dyno. It's a measuring stick to see if your tuning is doing something or not. It doesn't matter if the baseline is 120 or 180, the idea is to measure the gain from that baseline.

I have always ascribed to the view that the number is meaningless in and of itself. In my opinion (and others much more valuable than mine), dyno's are useful as a tool when you get a baseline on one machine, then modify, then return to the same dyno for another run. Even two different Dynojets will get different results. And then there are the shops who adjust their atmospheric corrections to get higher numbers to make customers happy. My $0.02 worth is don't worry about the number itself, but the changes as you mod the car...

You were at Performance 2ning outside of Dubuque right? I want to get my car dyno'd there sometime. It'd be interesting to compare numbers.

Mustang Dynos are called "Heartbreakers" for a reason. They're low reading dynos.
