Wheel Gap & Wheel Size

I'm not the most cluey on these things so was hoping if someone can please confirm if wheel size affects the wheel gap, specifically when lowering?

Is there a formula that can work out the final wheel gap given suspension height and wheel size?

I'm thinking of rockin' 18"/8.75" with 235/40/18 and installing the Eibach Pro Kit.

While I would love to get the Sportline, I don't want the hassles that come with such a drop (scrapes/discomfort). I'm hoping getting the 18"s will close the gap even more.

Simply going to 18s would not "close the gap", it depends on the tire size you choose. I personally like this calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Taller tires will "close the gap", but will throw the speedo off as well. The size you mention is almost 1" taller (actually 245/35 would be closer to stock height), so with Pro kit, you will close the gap a bit by 1" +0.5" (half of total tire size increase). I think it's a bit too much of a difference in tire size.

I ran 235/40 all around on that same size and verified speedo was still accurate, if anything its off stock. Check my build thread or the wheel gallery and you can see it, closes the gap very nicely but still no scraping or rubbing.

H Tech springs but you get the idea

Tein H Tech springs right now, probably changing out to Eibach coilovers or GC in a couple months though.

1" front, .8" rear

Wish i had went lower in the back but was trying to keep from having to buy camber correction parts, it didn't matter my car was out stock.
