Dual intake cones? Just an idea.

I've been playing with the idea of doing some kind of DIY intake system and thought i'd bounce my latest idea off the general public. Here is a list of parts that i've found in order coming off the throttle body.

For the vacuum line:

MAF sensor:

"Y" pipe:

45's:

And a couple of K&N cones:

obviously i'll have to make my own brackets, but that shouldn't be too difficult. I know i know, the performance gains will be minimal at best, but i've always like the look of this type of setup.

Can anybody see any totally obvious "cons" that i'm overlooking?
What do you all think of the idea?

Maf placement is critical. It takes Alot of r&d to make a functional intake that actually makes power. I you have access to a dyno or software that can show if you are leaning out then go for it.

Looks cool

These were common in the Vette world. They really didn't offer any additional gains over single-cone systems. My .02 & YMMV...

They do look neat, though!

I've got the torque app and a bluetooth ODB2 adapter so i'll be sure to check the AF ratio's before and after. Sadly, no dyno anywhere nearby.

I dont know much about how it would work or how to tune it properly but I say go for it, would be interesting and its always good to see more people trying new things

Thats kind of been my only reservation, the closest place to get anything tuned is from Perrin about 4 hours north of me. Not exactly convenient.

common on BMW 335s ...

Seems like heat could be an issue or do you have plans for heat shielding and/or venting ?

I wouldn't think it would be any more of an issue then any other CAI/short ram. But a heat shield wouldn't be a difficult addition.

What did you attach? I can't see it

Something along these lines:

I'd thought about something similar already, too.
However, for the left side, I'd prefer a mirrored OEM airbox as an addition.
The space behind the bumper seems to be laid out exactly like the one on the right (where the airbox originally sits), so that should be practical.
However, there's the issue of a mirrored airbox not actually being available...

Alternatively, one may stick to the Y-design for the intake but move the filter to the center joint and have the left and right ducts act as intake pipes only...

Tried it this summer already. The car bogged (i.e. too much air flow). This was part of my R&D intake venture.
