Side markers laws (one on the front wheel arches)

Hi,

Anyone know if it is legal to have the JDM clear lens on the side markers (instead of the amber one we get) here in BC? I heard some mix messages, some say it have to reflect amber but looks clear, some say it have to light up amber while other says it can be a white light.

I was looking at the BC Laws website: http://www.bclaws.ca/EPLibraries/bcl...ml#section4.01

Under section 4.12-1a, it seems to suggest that I can change both the lens and the bulb to white.

Anyone cares to comment?

Thanks!

Did you have both clear lens and white bulbs?

Reflective devices
4.21 (1) A vehicle must be equipped with at least one red reflector at the rear of the vehicle, either separate or incorporated into a tail lamp, that is mounted at a height of not less than 38 cm and not more than 1.83 m.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to a vehicle manufactured before January 1, 1958.
(3) Only amber reflectors may be mounted on the front or side of a vehicle.
(4) Only red reflectors may be mounted on the rear of a vehicle or on the side of the vehicle at or toward the rear of the vehicle.

Its the same here in Quebec, got 2 tickets with JDM cars in the past... but MOST cops don't look at this... Only the ones that know their stuff with mods...

That's the part that I'm confused about... Would you say it's a "Reflector" or "Side Marker Lamp"... Since it lights up (not just a reflector that gives off no light on it's own) I tend to think it's a side marker... according to the link I sent at the first post...

4.12 (1) A vehicle may be equipped with
(a) 2 side-marker lamps, mounted on each side of the vehicle near the front, that are capable of displaying only white or amber light, and
(b) 2 side-marker lamps, mounted on each side of the vehicle near the rear, that are capable of displaying only amber or red light.
(2) The side-marker lamps referred to in subsection (1) may operate in conjunction with turn signal lamps or the hazard warning signal.
(3) A vehicle with an overall width of 2.05 m or more, or having a gross weight in excess of 1 400 kg, may be equipped with side-marker lamps mounted on each side of the vehicle at the horizontal mid-point of the vehicle.

The wording makes it sound like having a reflector is entirely optional. Maybe consider painting it body colour?

Green?!?! Seriously?!?!? Bwa Hahahahahaha!!!

Guess I'll take my chances with amber bulbs in my JDM black crystal Lamp assemblies.

You can have the clear side markers just make sure you have a Amber bulb in there.

Just take a look at some cars in Ontario that come like that from factory. ei. 2008 Toyota Yaris

But even if you were going to be a bad boy and do something else yer not gonna get pulled over for it.

My wife's Yaris came with clear side markers and amber bulbs fromt eh factory.

On my S2000 I replaced the amber markers with clears jdm ones and amber bulbs.

In my sig below you can see my NSX. I painted over my amber markers at the front corners and rear red ones.

From this part it seems like you don't even need them if you have amber or green apparently running light that part of other light, or maybe I just misunderstood it

Skurj 02-04-2013 06:05 PM

Yup my Yaris has clear side markers, with amber bulbs from factory.

Think you would be fine with an amber bulb.
