Shift position indicator not shown in Manual

I just took delivery of my FRS last week. I recently read the manual about turning ON the Shift-up indicator (pg 152 in the owner's manual) and after turning it on, I still don't see anything. I don't see the gear # indicator nor do I see any upshift indicator. Anybody else have this problem? I don't think it's a big deal since I think intuitively I know when to shift for max fuel efficiency, but I want to know if there's anything wrong with my FRS.

But I did set it to "G-on" and still I don't see the display for my gear. Do I need to set my rev-limiter light limit first? (Cause I haven't done that yet, still breaking in my car).

So all you guys with the stick can set it to "G-on" and see what gear you're in digitally? Does the engine need to be on? What if its in ACC and you're in a gear physically? I ask because I don't see anything where there should be a R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Now I feel I need to bring it into the dealer for warranty service.

The car needs to be running, in gear with the clutch out.

Being that it doesn't have switches at each gear placement. I assume its calculating what gear its in based upon rpm and mph. Similar to gear indicators you can put on motorcycles.

Therefore the car has to be moving or at least the wheels turning. If you notice it takes it a split second or so to update when you change the gears and blanks when you depress the clutch.

This.

Car has to be running, in gear, clutch out, and moving for it to show. Unless you put it in reverse. Then the R appears immediately (reverse position sensor tips the cluster off).

Don't start the car, just the ignition needs to be turned on... I was pulling my hair out with this initially lol

Thanks all. It actually works. I wasn't expecting what seems like a bit of lag, but probably more caused by me not completely being off the clutch when I'm in gear initially. I don't like admitting this, but I was having a hard time sleeping last night cause of this (dreading bringing the FRS in for warranty, and receiving a f'ing Corolla for a rental while I wait for it to get fixed).

BRZ Ltd Update for GSI Toggle

If you have steering wheel Multi-Information Display Control Switches, navigate to the Gear Shift Indicator toggle display with two presses of the right arrowhead.
This is explained in your 2017 manual pp 213,214, and 223.
I was unable to cycle out of ODO/TripA/TripB with the (km/h-MPH) and ODO/TRIP dash switches.
