SoCal car controll clincs / intro to drifting
I am a novice when it comes to performance driving. The FR-S is my first RWD and first performance orientated car. I want to learn how to get the tail to swing out a bit and try to test the limits of the car with guidance/ instruction in a safe environment. I am just not finding much in the way of this. Ideas anyone.

I'd like some info in this area to.. A controlled place that can teach me

I've been looking for one for a while now. Any recommendations from anybody? |
Have you found a large empty parking lot? I learned at this big church near my house. I would just spend around 5 minutes learning how this car controls in a drift and whatnot and then leave. And i do that every once and a while. just dont stay too long or else youll attract unwanted attention.

I haven't found a big enough lot, just small ones, and being a auto I can't clutch it into a drift, once I floor it and get the wheel turned to start a drift, then it just spins into a weird spin like a held in the middle and rotating like a top.. Idk.. I have a huge lot for a 99 cent store but its right off the Main Street to Barstow and across where the cops are at because of a bar.. I can't find anything that's secluded and big enough to try that's not fenced off or chained off

That's pretty cool since that's where I'm moving to Santa Paula.. Maybe they can show me how to properly do this

I couldnt quite understand what you meant about that spin. But if you use too much gas itll just spin you out. I learned in the rain at first and discovered first gear was way too torqy for anything but donuts. so then i started practicing in second and gassing it to break traction. after i got comfortable with that and figured out how to hold it as long as i want, I then started to use the e-brake. so now i can throw it into a drift whenever i want. |
wet track=way to go

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26088 Hit up a track day. We already have a good amount of veterans that have transitioned to the FR-S/BRZ, and will be more than willing to help. Find yourself an instructor or mentor, and pay attention in the beginner's school. Additionally, I'm available for private instruction if you're looking to work on specific aspects of your driving. If you're looking specifically for drifting, hit up drift days. Drift car rentals and instruction is NOT cheap, as the risk and operating costs are SIGNIFICANTLY higher in comparison to starting at the track. Different skillsets for different drivers. While I *can* hold drifts, I don't have anywhere near the placement control that the hardcore drift guys do, but I'd venture that I can offer far more feedback when it comes to grip control and lap times. It's also precisely why the FT86 Cup was created! Check out: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25970 |
