How did you wire your new speakers?

To those of you that installed a new set of speakers/amp, how did you wire them?
  • Existing wiring cutting the harness from the stock amp?
  • Existing wiring using a harness on the stock amp
  • All new wiring

RCAs from the deck to the sub amp. Vampire taps for the separates in the doors in conjunction with some aftermarket adapters.

Haven't done mine yet but I'm running RCAs/rem wire back to the amps, then all new wiring to the speakers from the amps. Going to just disconnect the stock wiring and leave in place in case I ever go to remove my system or change to something else.

Did you use vampire/t taps at each end of the stock wires? IE on the ends in the truck and in the doors?

That was what I originally wanted to do, however I couldn't figure out how to get my wire in passed the door molex.

I ordered these off Amazon to give me a way to tap into the door speaker wires cleanly:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BBP7Y"]Amazon.com: Metra 72-8104 Speaker Connector for Select Toyota Vehicles: Electronics[/ame]

I then just vampire tapped into the end of the wires coming off this harness.

As for the deck connections, I'm running all of the stock/aftermarket speakers off the deck using an adaptor and the factory harness . I'm only running my subs off an AMP that I've mounted in the trunk.

How did you get the runs in the door molex?

Only one run goes into the door, just take your time and use a wire puller to pull it through the grommet. Took about 20 mins per door.

Would you happen to have a link to a wire puller?

GremlinGSP 01-16-2013 10:49 PM

I ran all new.

To get it through the door I just un hooked the rubber boot and fished it through. sometimes a metal close hanger can be used if needed but I didn't have to go that far.

Unhook the boot and start fishing? Fish in the boot right? I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Go in your closet and grab an old metal hanger. Untwist the hook end and you'll have a great wire puller. Just be careful as the edges can be sharp and puncture existing wires ...don't go shoving it in.

Fish the hanger through, tape your wires to the end, lube it up with some spit and pull it through.

Are we still talking about car audio here?
