anyone experience engine knock on 91 octane?
 

as i was reading the manual i noticed that it says "if 93 oct is not available you can use 91 but might experience knocking". I can only find 91 in Canada so wondering if engine will knock.

Getting my car next week so can't tell myself.

Petrocanada sells 94 octane at most locations.

is that what you use? must be really expensive.

I use it most of the time. Some people swear by shells premium, which is 91 here. It is ethanol free.

Actually higher altitude would have less of an octane requirement as the thinner air effectively reduces the compression.

Woah! I wouldn't dream of running anything under 98 octane (non-ethanol), though I guess that sounds a bit easier here in Australia than for you guys. 91 octane is our minimum fuel here, then 95, then 98 and we used to have 100 octane on pump at selected stations (non-ethanol.)

The difference is because you guys use RON in Oz, and we use AKI in the states, which is an average of RON and MON. Ours will show 4-5 points lower but is still equivalent to yours. So your 98 is our 93.

Driving at anything other than WOT reduces effective compression too, so you'd really only expect to experience knock at full-throttle.

I get stuck with 91 in certain parts of OK and MO when I'm driving between Ft. Worth and St. Louis. Only issue I've seen is a few misfires on cold morning starts. Dealer checked it out and the only recommendation they had was to use 93.

I haven't had the issue lately, but it hasn't been as cold.

Generally use Shell 91 without problems. Have used other stuff on the 401 to and from To without problems and Irving in Vermont.
