Changing Gears

Hi Guys

Just a quick question for the 86 drivers.

I know the gears changing is notchy but do you get like a knocking noise when changing gears at low speeds. Like a noise from the diff?

Also when going over a speed bump i am getting a noise from the front.

Thanks

Try and be smoother on the clutch and change gear more slowly - mine is also a bit noisy - has gotten smoother with age and 6200 odd km. Is it a clunk going over bumps? It could be shock or strut related - I had that issue with my Corolla and after doing the alignment it disappeared - something was loose.

I think what you're describing is pretty normal for RWD cars.

Ok i thought as much its normal for rear wheel drive. Plus the car is new so i want to run it in a bit s well to see if gets quite.

Yup i think i will get them to do the alignment.

Thanks Guys

It does seem to be normal as both my cars do it. The 86 when it goes into first at stop I hear the clunk.

Ok cool, mine does the same.

Its the LSD

I must say one of the selling points of this car for me was the gearbox - it felt strong on the test drive. Having driven old cars with bad synchro you can really appreciate these. They seem to be built to handle punishment. Definitely built for the tuner's market.

I don't think it's the LSD. My BM without LSD did the same.

I don't think I've ever driven a RWD car that goes into 1st at standstill with a bit of a clunk from the prop-shaft.

Was waiting for that - my BM!

Mine too!

LSD shouldn't make a noise unless it's knackered.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys

I find that it was because I did not engage my clutch fully. Funny enough, I enjoy the clunk and tend to do it when I'm alone in the car. Ja u guys are right. The thunk from the speed bumps is normal. It's the heavy diff. If you fit the brackets/clamps that are featured on other threads, that will go away. Also they say that it adds to rigidity. I have seem gearbox, exhaust, door and may other re-enforcing brackets. They are all raving about them.
