Camber bolt torque spec

I received the SPC 81280 16mm OEM finish camber bolts. The instructions say to torque it to 83 lb-ft. I can't find the exact torque specs for the OEM bolt, but I believe it's well over 100 lb-ft. The same exact SPC camber bolt but in traditional zinc finish requires over 100 lb-ft as well.

Is it safe to torque these SPC OEM finished bolts lower than the OEM specs?

I received the following email from SPC regarding the torque specs of their OEM finished bolt.

ayau,

We changed the material on the camber bolts due to increasing requirements from the auto manufacturers that we supply to. The new OEM finish is significantly more durable against corrosion due to salt spray. Additionally, the new finish has less friction so less torque is needed on the bolt to get the same clamping load.

My Eibach bolts also required a lower torque rating, no biggie. The torque is set to get the bolt to stretch the proper amount, so it's more about the bolt/material than what you're bolting it to.

If you want to safe guard against the bolt slipping put some paint under the heads of the nut and bolt. This will lock it into place when dry.
