Just another day at the track... Streets of Willow Springs

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYG_jGxgvCw"]BRZ/FR-S/GT86 SoWS street tire lap record - YouTube[/ame]

Tires were still not quite warmed up for the first half of the lap... had to go wide in the bowl :mad0259:

Car can definitely still go faster, but I just need that perfect lap where I hit no traffic AND the tires are at the right temp...

Car specs:
Tein SRC coilovers
Enkei RPF1 17x8 +45
225/45/17 Hankook RS3
Essex AP Racing Sprint big brake kit
Carbotech XP12 brake pads
Berk Axleback prototype

Alignment:
-3.0 camber front
-2.4 camber rear
1/16" total toe-in front
1/16" total toe-in rear

Based on tire wear, we do need a bit more camber... don't have a pyrometer to check temps...

Nice!

We need to move, not being able to track Nov-March sucks.

I was a little worried about the dusting (never driven in snow before... and I have extremely limited rain experience), but it ended up having what I felt, no effect on lap times. The tires took longer to warm up, and cooled off VERY quickly (which was totally awesome IMO).

The lack of sun kept the surface cold... so the conditions weren't ideal, but I much prefer the cold over a hot summer track day (110F+ temps all day... over 100, even after the track goes cold...).

Oh, forgot to mention. Any input/feedback on my driving is always welcomed; I'm trying to get faster.

The lap was a bit sloppy, and I think there's another half second or so to be found in the first half (s/f to the bowl)

wow, -3.0 front camber with only coilovers and crash bolts? can you share with us how much you're lowered on those Teins?

edit:

nevermind, i remember you said you had camber plates at the front. which plates are you running?

Camber plates are included with the Tein SRCs. I also have crash bolts from before I had them, but I can certainly get more.

We're dropped about 1.5".

It was nice meeting you. Thanks for the ride along as well, learned a few things.

that was on the RS3's? fast. congrats. I thought that was on the Maxxis when I saw the time sheet. what times did you run on the R comps?

ayau 12-31-2012 08:22 PM

@CSG Mike, what video equipment are you using and how do you have it mounted? the view looks perfect and i think it's much better than mounting it on outside of the car.

I ran the Maxxis in the last session that I ran; theoretical is showing a low 24, but none of the laps were clean unfortunately, so I was running 25's with passes. :( I only ran a session on them per John's request; gotta save them for additional testing later.

It's funky, because I have an extra upshift during the chicane; I hit the limiter one of the laps IN the chicane and almost wiped out. Also, I have to upshift while exiting T2, and mid T3 (3rd felt... slow), but the tires have enough grip that I can be rough with the shift and get away with it. I also tap the limiter in 3rd before the bowl with the RC1.

Part of the equation is more grip = more cornering speed, and the fact that its a 235/40/17 vs 225/45/17.

I was gonna offer you our car to drive but you took off early :(

Thanks for loaning us the igloo mount!

This is an original GoPro Hero HD, mounted "upside down" at the frontmost part of the rear windshield. 1080P, "upside down" mode, spot metering.

It's coincidence that you can see well inside the passenger cabin; it was overcast and not as bright as usual outside.

nice lap!

Sorry for being off topic, but is that a crack in your dash panel?
