Holy Frankenshifter!

Looks like it was recycled from ROBOCOPS Achilles Tendon!

Now get your girlfriend to sit on it..

Maybe the owner has REALLY short arms?

celica73 12-21-2012 11:20 AM

It's not my thing, but maybe the owner just appreciates steering with 2 hands (the proper way). The farther you move your hand from the wheel when shifting, the less time you spend in true control of the car.

Those of you who think the shift knob is a handrest won't understand.

Here is a picture of a modern WRC car. Big truck shifters aren't slow.

This is true!

My only concern is for those that currently put their thumb on top of the shifter knob when putting the car in reverse. Good luck with that :eyebulge:

I dig it. but 150 bucks? Whoa. :eyebulge:

I get the concept, but the WRC cars are using a sequential gearbox. It's always just forward or back not through a gated pattern like our cars.

Edit:

Also kind of defeats the purpose of a short throw shifter which is also all about spending less time shifting.

I'm not allowed to say it

You combine them with a short shifter to get shifts the same as the stock car. Having the shifter as close as possible to the steering wheel is more important (on the track at least) then a notchy short shift is.
@gmookher : Yes you can, the only moderating that's happened to you has been you not seeing your own posts and thinking they've been deleted.

Right, the point on the rally cars is to have the sequential shifter as close to the wheel as possible to minimize time with a hand off the wheel. It's extremely fast when you're operating a sequential box. It'd be a nightmare for an H pattern.

One thing to consider is just a little bit of pressure puts x times more ft. lbs. of tension on the stock gearshift bushings and maybe other components compared to the stock lever. Whereas that WRC shifter has a shifter completely built to take abuse.

I used this custom shifter in my MR2 for like... a week... but took it off because every time I shifted it felt like I was going to rip the linkage apart. It completely does away with whatever sensitivity you normally feel of the gears through the shifter and numbs the feeling of oneness with your car.

Well, I like it. Plus, a higher knob means more leverage, which makes getting into notchy 2nd gear much easier. The price is a bit much though. It would be better to get a normal knob with an 2-3" extension instead.
