DBA rotors w/ stock pads

Hi guys,

Just need some advice. I am picking up a set of DBA T3 4000 rotors for my 86. I am planning to get a set of Ferodo DS pads to suit.

I have no interest in tracking or aggressive racing, I am only doing this upgrade to minimalise rust and dust from the OEM pads and rotors.

Question is, would upgrading the rotors alone be enough to do this? or ideally should I upgrade the pads too (to reduce dust)?

:thanks:

From what I've read the Ferodos are great pads, but do dust a bit more than oems. I have settled on stoptech street for my first set. Decent heat range but low dust/noise. For rotors, any uncoated one will rust. Here's an extreme pic of DBA 4000s from google:

Hey mate, what rotors do you have? Coz I heard some pads can damage certain rotors if too soft / hard etc.

Right now full stock setup, but soon I am going to DBA 4000's with STI brembos and the stoptech street pads.

The biggest issue with pads/rotor combos is bedding them in properly. New pads on new rotors aren't usually a big deal but mix new and old and it's hard to get them to 100% mate easily.

Thanks :-)

So why are you going the StopTech option? And where do you get them?

I'm on the ds2500s with cryo powerslots, happy so far, got rotors off tirerack pads from essex

They are one of the better options for low dust + noise, with a bit better range than oem. I will swap to track pads for heavy work.

you just need to paint whatever rotors you buy..

I don't think buying 4000 series discs are going to help you reduce rust and dust.
First thing would be to look around at the 'street' pads that are available. These generally have lower dust and noise than track focused pads.
If you really want discs then T2 slotted DBAs should suit you fine.

Hey mate, T2's don't have paint protection though...

Surok 12-11-2012 01:50 AM

ask your mechanic to paint them for you

Painting literally takes 1 hour, if that..
FYI, RDA new trislot/dimpled design comes painted, silver or black/gunmetal..

Yes, but does paint protection protect from rust? Isn't painting them different?

From DBA's PDF catalog:

T2 slot design
Features
Patented ‘Kangaroo Paw’ ventilation design* provides greater heat dissipation
Bi-Symmetrical T2 curve slots dampen the vibration harmonics or noise, resulting in a quieter, responsive and smoother brake pedal feel
T2 slot design provides even pad wear and assists in minimising glazing of pad surfaces
Non-directional slot design eliminates the need for left and right discs
Paint protection on non-friction areas enhances appearance
