Headlights too dim
 

I'm really having trouble seeing with the factory bulbs, so I'm looking at getting new ones. I was wondering if anyone has done this..What brands do you suggest? Did a whiter bulb actually help? I'm trying to steer clear of a blue tint

I hear good things about HIR type bulbs..

PIAA lights are awesome

Different color temperature won't make any difference (blue, "super white", 55w=85w, etc), and any kind of coating will only reduce light output. There are high efficiency bulbs which do put out a bit more light, or a better option is a bulb conversion (9004 to 9007 for instance). But depending on how old and worn out those stock bulbs are, just about anything might be an improvement.

A couple of other things to keep in mind: If your headlight lenses are hazy, this isn't helping you. And chances are, the stock wiring to your headlights is causing your bulbs to run at less power than they are rated for. Running 10ga or 12ga power and ground wires out to the headlights, and using the stock harness to trigger a relay will give decent improvements.

I'd make sure it's not a clouded housing first, that cuts light output considerably. I replaced mine with Silverstars when one burned out, but couldn't really tell a difference.

The regular Silverstar work fine, but they're slightly on the yellow side.
The Silverstar Ultra Gold package give you a cleaner white light. Plus the brightness level is a bigger jump then what the picture below makes it seem.
The regular SilverStar's are more like the XtraVision ime.

first of all the stock frs projector is not as good.

but HIDs will be the best option for plug and play setup

if you want better lights, you need to retrofit better projectors

I have halogens in my current car, and its bright enough
because I added Osram Rally H7 (which use H9 burner) so
more light.

I put the standard Silverlights in my Tiburon, it was a hassle but well worth it, huge difference in brightness and colour temp.

The best bulbs out there right now are the Osram Night Breaker, Philips X-treme Power, GE Nighthawk Platinum, or PIAA Night-Tech. Or if you want to modify some Toshiba HIR bulbs to fit, that would probably be the best choice.

I have tried the Philips X-treme Powers and I currently have the Osram Night Breaker Plus. I like the Night Breakers a little more as they seem a little brighter and whiter. They only seem slightly blue at the edges when you look out the side window to turn. Also make sure your headlamp is very clean. You can buy cleaning kits for them.

Anyway, my night vision is getting worse and nothing compares to a good set of HIDs. That's why I really want the HIDs in the Scion FR-S. I'm tired of ****ing around with halogens. :P
