Uncommanded Start

While putting the car away in my garage I had is restart on me.

Here's what happened.
  • drive into the garage
  • clutch in
  • press the start/stop button
  • engine stops
  • move the shifter to neutral
  • begin to set parking brake ( hand is on the parking break )
  • engine starts ( hand is still on the parking break )
  • WTF

anyone else had anything like this happen?

Also after I stop the engine the car starts beeping ( not a continious tone, just beeping ). I restart the engine ( pushing the start/stop button ) and then stop it again and everything appears normal.

Vehicle has just over 4K miles.

No answer here, but since you mention push-start, I'm assuming this is in a BRZ, and not the Sentra you have listed in your info? Need to update your ride, bro!

Well the beeping when the car is off is normal. It does that when the key is inside the car and the car is off.. Its a warning to keep you from locking your key in the car. If you get a solid high pitched tone, its because you have the lights turned on and the car off.

I don't know why the car would start.. thats just random.

Put in neutral and pull parking brake before killing engine.

I've found that if i shut the car off, then put it in gear before opening the door, you don't get the beeping. You'll know you did it right if you hear the steering wheel lock engage as you pull the handle on your door.

Yea, I always leave the car in gear so that's probably why the beeping seemed unusual. Also the beeping was while the door was closed.

I've noticed in the 6 months I've had mine is that the only time it'll beep when I shut the engine off (or if the car was just in "on") and the door is open. Hasn't beeped when the door is closed.

However, the engine starting randomly is weird. :iono: See if you can reproduce it somehow by following those steps.

Me too. I vaguely recall the manual actually saying to leave it in neutral when it's off, which sounds like a bad idea to me.

That is a bad idea to leave it in neutral.

On the auto start, something in your pocket push the start button on the remote?

Leaving your car in neutral is a bad idea? :iono: Since when?

Now if it is on unleveled ground obviously putting it in gear is a smart backup plan.

AFAIK there is no way to start the car with the remote.

I haven't had it happen again, hoping this is a one time glitch.
