Exaust with most HP/TQ gains for under $1000
What's the best exausts for under $1000? I want something deep sounding, with a decent amount of gains... There are just too many to choose from! I really like the HKS Legamax, but it's too much for my wallet.

i think the muffler deletes have actually put up really good numbers. though it isnt a true exhaust look up Berks.

Milltek and MXP are my favorites available, i have the MXP on the way now.
|
What do you consider "decent gains"? Most of the gains ive seen come from the frontpipe and overpipe
|
Exhaust power gains are going to be small, pick based on sound and perceived value ;)

Go with Perrin. People say the non resonated doesnt sound too loud at all especially when you compare it to the resonated. The resonated they say sounds like a stock Lexus. In the magazine dyno the un resonated had the best gains IMO of all the cat backs tested.. MSRP's at 900. AVOID AGENCY POWER/VIVID RACING AT ALL COSTS. They charge as much as Perrin and other more expensive cat backs and doesnt even produce half of what they actually claim. Their dynos vs actual customers dynos dont even come close, all their dynos are full of shit and have poor quality control based on what customers have already said on these forums and in the past.. You would be better off getting a Megan cat back then them and use that money saved on other parts. Not that Megans are horrible but thats honestly what Agency Power should really be charging for their claimed to be made in USA actually made in China/Taiwan knock off crap.

If you happen to be near a book store or magazine rack, look for the Dec 2012 issue of DSPORT magazine. They do an exhaustive (lol) test of 9 different systems in that issue. The go into a lot of detail regarding power output at various RPM points, sound db levels, pictures, etc. This by no means covers all the options, but will give you a pretty good idea what is out there. Don't get hung up on list price, most places can sell for considerably less. For example, that article lists the price of a Magnaflow at $943.58. I paid just over $700 in Canada (where things usually cost more). |

I think the only one that is header back (kinda) in that price range is the Nameless full exhaust. It does use the stock midpipe, but the overpipe and front pipe are replaced, as well as the axleback section. It's about $1050. Quote:

Keep the stock catback and change headers.

WHAT WHAT?! You mean improve the flow where the exhaust is hottest and has the most potential to expand? And a thank you for you.

From the Dsport article the Perrin unresonated seemed to have the most gains, followed closely by the ISIS catback. The ISIS is only $600 and I actually like the way it sounds. Unfortunately I don't like the tips at all. It's not the burnt blue that gets me but just the blue with the fact they're thin-walled I guess. I dunno, they just look really cheap to me and it's hard for me to get over. Really, it's the only part of the exhaust you'll see on a regular basis so I want it to look good.

I'd go with Perrin as stated here 100x times. I feel like they've produced the best product so far, and have put by far the most R&D into it. IE: THey've been working on an intake since june and still haven't put one out, as they're still testing etc.
Perrin sounds good and the total system, down pipe/catback/overpipe ends up netting like 15whp and 9wtq. |
