Need help quick plz. Dealership wont give deposit back.

Hey guys,

Need your advise. So I put down my deposit for an FRS a couple weeks ago and they told me what its fully refundable.

I went to try and get my deposit back right now since I found another FRS instock now from a different dealership. And they said no

What should i do. They said its only refundable if something is wrong with the car. And that i needed a written paper saying that my deposit could be refunded WTF

Thanks
Stan

Don't leave till you get your deposit. I put 3 $500 deposits at three deferent dealer ships and they all gave me my deposits back when i found my frs at another dealer in stock. I wouldn't leave until they have me my deposit.

Just call scion.

From teh dealer.

Tell the dealer you're doing that. And don't sugar coat anything :) The scion policy is that it's refundable AFAIK

Can't believe dealers are still doing this... :mad0260:

But I'm glad you got it back though.

Yeah hard to believe that dealers are still trying that in the days of Yelp, FB and forums like this, I wish it had been as easy to get the word out on bad dealer experience a couple of decades back with some prior purchases, but these days dealers seem to be savvy that word can spread fast if they act like DBs.

I had a $500 deposit on an out of state BRZ I planned to buy/ship, but ended up cancelling my order when a BRZ became available locally which I bought knowing I might have problems getting my deposit back on the other dealer, but later when I asked for my deposit back the salesman totally understood the buy opportunity situation and didn't give me any problems, he just wanted to know how competitive the deal was compared to his.

Maybe the fact I mentioned I would let folks on this forum know the car was back available didn't hurt with him knowing I could also share if there was a bad experience too, but he was great about the whole process anyhow.

Glad you got your money back. The same situation is the exact reason why I asked the salesperson I was working with to send me an email specifically stating the deposit he was asking for was refundable. The dealership seemed straight up enough but it never hurts to have something in writing :)

Now if only Saturday would come and I can finally make the decision to get that Raven FR-S I put that deposit on...

i suspect they was "probing" you! they know they have to
give it back.they just want to determine if you are "stupid" enough
to let them keep it!

Glad to hear of your positive outcome.

I'm assuming the dealer did not want to lose your business, and perhaps became stubborn... It may have been bitter for the dealer to swallow, but the response to your request should have been more positive initially.

Anyway, I wish you good luck with the FR-S which you located elsewhere. :)

You'd be surprised how common this was a few months when these were first hitting the shores. People had to fight tooth and nail to get their money back.

It's pretty stupid they would give a guy a hard time like that, especially on a car they will probably have sold to someone else within an hour of it coming to their lot.

State laws vary but essentially, the golden rule(s) 1. Are you under contract, if so, read the details. 2. Stealerships can NOT keep your deposit. Go right to the top of the stealership, the GM (general manager).

It really pisses me off to hear this.

WTF thats so fucked up you should've started a riot in there man

i hear ya,but you would think it shouldn't be a problem
in light of the fact, the car will sell right away anyway!
in any event, a call to your state's "'consumer protection division"
should take care of the matter!
