MT fill and drain washers
 

Was at Toyota today. Checked the price and I was told the washers are $17/ea.
Is there an alternative?

Yes, don't buy them. You don't really need to change them, at least not the first few times you take them out. As long as the hole doesn't leak you are good to go, and it is very easy to torque the drain and fill bolts nice and tight.

These suckers are pricey but they can be had for less. I bought mine from subarugenuineparts.com

They are $6.30 each, P/N 17008AA050...need two as both fill and drain use same washer.

Mind you there is a shipping charge but I did it this way as it was much easier than going to my dealer over 50 miles away.

As long as we are talking drain/fill washers. The rear differential washers are:

Fill plug washer: 11126JB000-$1.38 each

Drain plug washer: 1215710010-$1.58 each

Haven't messed with mine yet, but do our cars even have true crush washers?

On a semi-related note, I wonder if the vast majority of dealers bother changing these during service...

Excellent info. Thanks. I usually buy parts online, but happened to be at the dealership today with some time to kill, so i thought I'd check it out.

FYI, the diff washers ar $4/ea at the dealership and the crash bolts are $14/ea.

Just flip them before you put the plugs back in, torque to spec and you'll be fine.

cant you just take the washer to an auto store and get a generic one in the equivalent size?

Just call ahead to the local Subaru dealership. If they don't have it, they will order. You shouldn't even have to pay for the shipping from the distribution center to the dealer. Just go pick them up when they're in.

I work at a shop and you should never re use trans and diff seal washers they are usually one time use items. if youre smart pay for the best deal on new ones and use them. being cheap can cause a ton more problems in the long run do it right the first time and it can mean a world of difference. trust me. imagine it doesnt seal perfectly and slowly slowly you start losing bits of trans fluid till its gone and you didnt know. one day driving your trans just melts from friction then youre out a transmission no good.

I re-used my old ones mainly because its 27lbs of TQ. Not going to crush them with that pressure.
