Auto Climate Control turns on randomly

Anyone else encounter this issue? The ac will randomly turn on even though I know I turned it off. Happened a couple times and thought I was going crazy. Never seen this issue until this morning.

Do you have it set to "auto"?

Used the front defroster? I know in most cars, the front defroster (defogger?? Whatever) will use the AC - and in some cars when you switch the controls back to vents, the AC will stay on. Not sure how this one works offhand.

AC will turn on automatically in certain car when at the windshield defroster settings. Not sure about the FR-S yet.

Nope, I pressed the "off" button then only hit the recycled air button. Couple minutes later, the ac will turn on by itself. Will do some more testing later.

Happens to me all the time also. Was wondering the same thing. I knew about it turning on for the defroster but I know for certain that it has come on when I haven't used it at all.

i know in my mazdaspeed 3 the a/c would cycle the compressor no matter what setting you had it on. it was normal with the auto climate control.

This makes me glad that I have to turn a dial in order to run my A/C.

Mine has switched all by itself too. I had the unit set to 70 degrees last weekend and the vents set to feet & face with the blower set to the second speed. When I went to leave later in the day I noticed the vents were now on feet and defrost, the 'auto' was lit up and the fan speed was now at 3. Haven't had time to read the owners manual fully yet....

I'd be happy to help out, research the owner's manual, and determine if there is a solution there, BUT, I have the manual system (Premium model) and it does what I tell it to do  , no exceptions.

RTFM, you should hopefully understand then. The system is designed to make temperature control easier, not harder, I promise you. I'ts not new tech, either. My friend's 1990 Supra has auto climate control. My Mercedes is always set to 72; set it and forget it.

OK...here is my take on this. There are two auto functions. The first is a full auto and is selected by pushing the auto button. You will then see the auto indicator in the display go to a highlighted display.

In full auto the climate control has full control of the system to maintain the set temp. It will select the fan speed, air direction, a/c compressor and the recycle funtion

Now...if you turn off the a/c by toggling the a/c switch the system is still in a reduced auto function and this is shown by the auto indicator now being just the word auto and not highlighted.

In this mode the system will still select fan speeds and direct air flow. Hence the changing settings.

Strange. I hit Auto and then the AC button and it stays off.

is there a way to change the "reduced auto" function to not-auto? i my A/C always turn on when i turn on climate control no matter what air flow setting i set.

Not sure what you are saying...but if you set the air direction (floor, face, etc) on my car it will still try to mainatin the temp via fan speed and if the a/c is toggled on it will cycle the compressor.

Now...if you manually set a fan speed I've seen the fan speed increase to try and overcome a large temp delta between temp setting and ambient.

This is how my car acts.
