Component question

I purchased some Sony GS1720S (got a good deal at about $100 shipped) and was thinking I'd put the woofer in the doors and 1" tweeter in the dash, with both connected to the crossover.

As I am quite the newbie when it comes to this sort of thing, do you foresee having any problems with this setup? I had heard something about the factory amp not being full range?

You'll need to measure the actual tweeter size to be sure that it will fit in the OEM tweeter location. If not, you will need to remove the factory 3.5" speaker and install the Sony tweeter in that location.

Just because both are considered a 1" tweeter does not mean that the Sony will fit where the OEM tweeter was located.

You will also need wiring harnesses and mounting harnesses, and you will need to determine a location fo rthe aftermarket crossover. I'd say stash them behind the dash and use the OEM door speaker wire to supply signal to the door-mounted midrange.

You'd have an input to the crossover fromthe OEM HU, then the output would go straight to the tweeters for the highs and tap from the midrange output into the OEM door wires right there behind the dash.

All of that last part is moot if you add an amp.
