Need help removing shifter trim
I recently purchase my JDM knee pads and in the midst of installing them. However I've run into a wall; I can't seem to remove the outer shifter trim and was wondering is the best way to remove? I've looked at several threads already and it seems the only one that comes close is the JDM Knee Pad Install DIY, but even there it just says to pull with no in depth details.
Do I pry with a flat head? I can't seem to get the screw driver down deep enough for a solid pry. Or, do I pull upwards on the trim while gripping the trim around the outer circumference of the shifter boot? I'm doing my best not to damage trim at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!! |
I just did this actually, the bst way is to lift up the plastic covering where the armrest should be and you'll see two screws there, unscrew both. Then lift up the vinyl base around the handbrake, pulling straight up until it comes off. Then youll be good to take off the shifter base, make sure to unplug the VSC buttons.

Stick your fingers into the shift boot and get a good grasp with the tips of your fingers on the side of the trim piece and lift straight up. It literally takes about 5 seconds to remove.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'll give it a try!

Should the shifter trim come off the same way on an automatic? I've also read all the threads and it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Do one side at first, then work towards the buttons. Thank you! |
Do you need to remove the shift knob first? (referring to the automatic)

If it won't budge double check to make sure you've found all the bolts. There are bolts everywhere on that damn thing. Had to check 3 different places to find where they all are. Then just brute force the damn thing. It just doesn't want to budge.
