Considering the Ground Control Setup

I've run the Ground Control coilover kit setup on my past cars and have enjoyed them a lot. My favorite set was on my championship DSP Volkswagen and the kit was installed on Koni Yellow dampers.

I'm considering buying the kit for my FR-S. I'm thinking about buying the kit and installing them on the stock dampers for now, and then switching them over to Koni Yellow dampers once they are released.

Is anybody else running this setup currently? Any opinions on this setup?

Here's the pics and info

GCs are pretty well tested and just on quite a few track cars.

My whole issue is that you're still lowering the car on the dampers. Full fledged coilovers allow you to lower a car without affecting the travel on a damper because the lowering collar is integrated into the body of the damper itself.

I ran the sleeve over kit and the feel/balance was great, but I was running into Travel issues. I was running the 150mm front and rear springs with the 6.6kg and 7.7 kg rear and it was very good.

I would just wait a few weeks for the full kit to be released however. I have the Race kit in the mail (will be here on Thursday!!!) and it will have camber plates and an integrated stress bar. Dampers will be Single Adjustable Koni Race inserts in the front and shorter rear shocks.

I'll be sure to post lots of pictures when it all comes in.

Edit: For Reference I've been using GC/Koni stuff for a long time, GC/Koni on my miata, GC Street/School kit on my 135i (uses koni yellows) and the GC sleeve kit/camber plates on my M3 and I've always really liked the products.

Mostly Japanese coilovers are like that. KW, JRZ, Moton, AST and other high end dampers do not use the adjustble lower collar, and just use the spring perch to adjust height.

I love GC stuff but wouldn't run it until I could have Bilstein Sports or Konis. I only say that because I'd want custom rates and the OEM dampers likely wouldn't like the rates I'd be trying.

I'm still planning on trying the Eibach coilovers.

I do have a strong suspicion that the GC camber plates and strut bar are going to be nice though!!

They worked really well with 375 front and 425lb rears, just at the height I wanted the rear was bottoming out over large bumps.

GC posted this picture today of the strut bar.

That's what I was expecting.

Adam: You should post pics of the caster/camber plates for us. (I'm assuming he'll find this thread eventually)

I'll take some pictures of mine tomorrow night when they come in

Thank you guys for all of your posts! I'll keep checking the thread for those pictures. It sounds like I'm gonna get the race kit with the Koni dampers and GC camber plates. I had the exact setup on my VW and I loved it.

iirc sometimes the perches need to be different for different shocks or struts. id be weary that the sleeve doesnt fit both the stock shock and whatever aftermarket solution you choose.

Usually true on full koni/bilstein replacements, but I prefer that method anyways compared to the normal spring perch setup.

I just got off the phone with Adam. Oh boy does it sound like he has some goodies for us. This race kit sounds phenomenal. Super affordable as well!

Stole from another thread. The GC Race kit looks beautiful.
