eibach sportlines clunking..
 

Hi my friend and I installed a set of eibachs sport line springs for the frs, it was good install (long but good) but just wanted to know if any of you sport line guys or gals out there are having any unusual clunking noise. I get an unusual clunking noise sometimes when I'm turning a corner or sometimes just driving straight road. Any feedback would be much appreciated thanks.:party0030:

Is the top screw torqued down?

Top screw is always number one culprit to clunking. Always recheck the nuts and bolts that were removed for correctly torqued down.

If that isn't it, check the following:

Endlink nuts
Make sure springs seated properly
Make sure spring pads are seated properly
Three nuts at the top

Is it a definitive clunking? Or popping sound like coils are binding?

eveyrthing was torqued down to specification, but apparently i did not recieve new bump stops with the springs would that be the cause of the clunking. also another thing when i got home to check everything out i noticed i have a blown strut leaking fluid on the rear passenger side.

the top screw was torqued down to sepecification.

Not sure how much the Sportlines lower, but I don't think it would be so low that they would be riding on bumpstops all the time. I believe there were cases where people complained about leaking struts on stock springs, and some immediately after aftermarket install. Put it all back to stock and have Scion replace under warranty.

But the springs if purchased new and unopened, should have included 4 bump stops & 2 dust shields. If they did not contact the vendor you purchased from, and Eibach.

This was due to incorrect installation.

Distance from center of front wheel to fender - FRONT
Stock springs: 14 7/16"
Eibach Sportline: 13 5/16" (1 1/4" drop)

Distance from center of front wheel to fender - REAR
Stock springs: 14 5/8"
Eibach Sportline: 13 5/16" (1 5/16" drop)

well i purchased these from a vendor (not saying any names) they were used but not long at all maybe a thousand miles at the most. and we installed correctly every step. :iono:

Not saying you installed them incorrectly, but the guys who had leaking struts after installation with Sportlines.

But contact the vendor and see if they can give you/still have the bump stops from your kit. It sounds like that's your problem, to me at least.

I contacted him tonight and he said he will be in the office @10 on Monday and he will see if he has the bump stops.

Could it be riding on the stock bump stops? Even if there was a small travel distance, bottoming out hard on the long oem bump stops could have damaged the shock(s) and maybe that's why it is leaking. If the shocks are already damaged, I would not put them back on the car even with the shorter bump stops the vendor provides.

Actually the previous cases were with prokit and some teins IIRC.

OP: Did you impact on the strut top nut?

I've had sportlines on for over 4,000 miles, including hours on Sebring which is extremely rough and did cause bumps top contact, my shocks are still fine.
