Try a toothbrush. That's what I use in hard to reach areas.

Does your wife have one of those little household steamers ? Steam will do the trick without leaving scratches. I use a commercial VX5000 but one of those little teapot type steamers will do the trick.

Also try q-tips. If you're still not having any luck, go to a well-stocked auto supply store and look for a tool especially designed to get into small corners. It looks like a thick pencil with a rubber tip at one end and a soft brush at the other.

And to avoid a repeat, modify your waxing technique. For those areas use instant detailer or one of the modern spray-on waxes that don't leave residue. Or if you want to stick with paste wax, then don't apply it directly but instead use what's left on the rag after applying and rubbing off the main panels.

Oh, and yes, it will work on old wax. Wax breaks down with time, particularly if exposed to UV rays. That's why it is necessary to re-wax frequently :)

Toothpicks can also be handy in certain situations.

Wd40 on a brush is good for taking off wax

Unless you know what you're doing, I wouldn't suggest using a brush! Just try using some All Purpose Cleaner and/or some Alcohol with a soft towel and only use soft pressure allowing the product to soften and dissolve the reminants.

it's on black plastic, not the paint tho. a brush will still mess that up?
