True Dual Exhaust?
Just when you thought I couldn't ask another strange exhaust question, how's this?
Seriously though, why not? Yeah, law of diminishing returns, I get that, but theoretically, couldn't you split the exhaust at the header, put a cat in each and be pretty good to go? Plumbing could be kept to a relatively small size since each pipe wouldn't need to flow as much as a single, and if flow dynamics are proportionate, shouldn't the cats be pretty happy to boot? What would the point be? Possibly better sound? Possibly more power since there is less gas passing through each cat? I don't know really, it was just something I was thinking about. |
You will probably need two pipes at about 1.5" - 1.75" diameter running alonside in the space provided in the tunnel. Could seem a little diffucult to place to smaller cats, two pipes, (resonated or not), you will need at X or H-pipe to get better performance and decrease drone, after that you will need mufflers.
If you have time, money, and skils, you may be able to pull it off. Not mention you will probably need a tune as well, seing that the primary cat has an Oxygen sensor. (you could remove, but you the risk of getting a C.E.L.). The biggest obstacle would be running exhaust manifold runners up and over to where about the resonator starts. hope that gives you an idea. |

Now I just need a huge bankroll to try it >.< |
besides the not seeing much gain, I think it will be very hard to pull off. here is how much room the car has for exhaust

In my experience, very little if anything is to be gained from going true dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder engine and often impacts mid range power negatively. Save that stuff for the v-8's.

If you want to try something different, you could get a small X-pipe. Split into two smaller pipes after the resonator, followed by the small X-pipe, then finsh it off with two small mufflers towards the exit. I would suggest replacing the mid pipe with a 2.5" pipe to increase the flow and sound.
I can almost gurantee that you wont get any gains, however the possibility of different sounds and pops may present itself. I was contemplating on doing this knowing I wouldn't get any gains, but having a different sound may have been worth it. |

Not much room underneath our cars to accommodate it either, I don't think. |

I was thinking bout this the other day. I think you could do it a lot easier from a fitmrnt perspective without cats. Would be super interested to hear how that would sound!!

To be short and blunt...
-It's a 2.0L -It's a 4 cyl - yes flat 4 but still a 4 -It's NOT a large V6 or V8 -The scavenging effect of an X-pipe thats 1.5 x 1.5 is kinda useless. -You'd need more mufflers, cats, resonators, etc (everything but tips really), AND an x-pipe - so the cost goes up, quite a bit Basically... it costs too much, does too little, and has no real necessity. You can do it to say you did it... and then anyone with half-sense will call you foolish. |
I was thinking about this when I first got my car.

Sounds similar to what Greddy Japan released for their catback exhaust.
GTS V2 exhaust. |

The car comes with two cats, so those are free, and with the size of the plumbing in question (1.5"-1.75"), I REALLY doubt you'd need extra resonators, if any at all. Probably a single muffler for each half, and you're good. |
