Idle issue question
So with the idle issue...
I noticed at idle in neutral clutch out the rpms jumped from 600 to 800 and then back down. Also, the car will shudder a little and go to 700 sometimes at idle too. Is this the start of the problem? I couldn't find any definitive post on the forum that showed it. I've got 1650 miles |
700-800?? Because 7400 is the stock redline..so if it was idling at 8000 that would be screaming.
However, assuming you mean 700-800, mine does that too occasionally, and i havent seen any issues yet. Maybe someone else who has had the issue can chime in... (i'm a little over 3000 miles with no problems yet...knock on wood) |

During those same times, I've noticed I can hear a pump or compressor kicking on, so I usually attribute the shudder to that. Good luck, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that both of us make it through without any problems.

hey its a fuel pump that needs to be replaced, i took it to scion/toyota of escondido today and they told me that they were going to replace it, apperentaly just a few days ago scion had these changes made. What I did was call toyota 800-331-4331 and then made an appointment with the dealer. When i called toyota i explained the problem, i suggest you do the same, I am talking about that chirping noise when warmed up and idle

the "pump" mentioned above is most likely the AC compressor. It clicks on and off as needed. From what I undertstand, the CEL is triggered when the idle dips too low, for too long. This is perfectly normal if it's only occasional and very brief. However, if there's a problem with the cam timing mechanism or it's control valve, the cam timing gets stuck at the wrong end of it's adjustable timing range and it causes the valve timing at idle to be a little off. Note, the cam is still within it's limits, just not where the ECU thinks it is. This won't cause your engine to explode. If the idle dip becomes more severe and causes the engine to run too low an RPM for too long (enough to shake the car) the ECU triggers a red flag and lights the CEL.
