800-SUBARU3 they will say: "Installing an aftermarket product onto your Subaru will not negate any warranties.* However, if an aftermarket product causes any issues with your Subaru, the repairs may not be covered under warranty." That is the official Subaru canned response verbatim. This could be debated eternally as a hypothetical. Only one way to find out for sure. Saw you are FR-S, don't have their # but same story... |
Mods don't void warranty. The technician ultimately makes that call when doing the warranty work on your vehicle. As has been stated many times on this forum, if the mod is in any way related to the warranty claim they can use it as cause to void the warranty. For example, if you blow your engine, and have a pulley they can refuse warranty service.

This was clarified some years ago, the dealership has to prove that the specific modification caused the specific failure.

Dealers try to deny warranty service all the time. I had to prove that a problem my wife's TSX was having was covered under warranty by presenting the dealership with documentation from their own company headquarters.
Edit: That said, I would certainly reverse this particular mod before I let the dealership see the car. I haven't done this mod because there is no vibration damper on this pulley and there is on the factory design. Too easy to argue that it caused a problem... and honestly, it could cause crankshaft issues. |
Thay could sure use it as an excuse to deny a warranty claim on the engine. I would take it off before you take it in for anything like that.

It's always a good idea to put the car back to stock before you try to take it in for warranty work to avoid the dealership disputing it. I have not seen or heard of any issues caused by a decent quality aftermarket crank pulley on a Subaru so I would not be worried about it.
