Here are some photos from my first oil change with the new wix filter PN # 57830. Looks like a great product from wix like always. first run was white not black also with a different part number.

Why did you use a wix filter and not a Toyota filter? And why are you changing your oil when you get free oil changes from scion?

FRSAZ 09-14-2012 07:04 PM

I have always used wix filters on all of my cars race car to imports just a good filter and im not waiting for my free oil change which could be a while seeing that they told me 6500 would be the earliest they would do so:burnrubber:.

I imagine because in general it is not good to trust a dealership to do the job as well as the owner will.

i let my oil drain for like 20 minutes then i use Motul oil

dealer only does quick oil changes

Considering I do engine repairs all the time because people think they know what's best and try to work on their own cars I would say that statement is overly exaggerated. But I so have respect for people who do work on cars so I would never bash anyone for busting out a wrench and going to work on a car they put investment into. I was just asking him about the selection of filter because I have see plenty of oil filters fail ( aftermarket) internally burning the oil.

For my oil change I used OEM Subaru oil filter. I don't work on my own car either (I fix people not cars). I leave the car to my dad - he's a Toyota tech of 30 yrs experience so I trust him explicitly.

Really??? It's just an oil change. Not that difficult to do, and hard to mess up. I work on all my own vehicles as well...turbo installs, brakes, suspension, frequent top ends on my offroad vehicles, etc... I'm certainly not a true mechanic, but have no problems tackling all my work.

I guarantee you that I am much more thorough with my work. I've had 2 issues with previous dealers, and finally stopped giving them my work (WAY overtightened oil drain bolt...other time didn't tighten the oil filter enough, which caused oil to majorly leak).

I trust myself, far more than the dealer. I'd be willing to bet, most are more cautious with their own vehicle over the dealer's work.

I have requested the assistance of a highly qualified and decorated committee to review these photos.

After extensive analysis they have come to the conclusion that the items featured in the photos are, in fact, oil filters.

For sure! There is a difference between working on your own car when you know what you are doing vs working on your own car when you have no clue.

But an oil is amungst the easiest maintenance to do.

Where did you get the WIX filter from?

TemeCal 09-14-2012 11:31 PM

...and to make my point even more, read this thread that was just posted:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12393

Happens all the time. There is no way I'd trust a dealer or quick lube place doing my oil change. There's no way of knowing what oil they used, if it was really changed, and if the filter was replaced. Not to mention, if they properly torqued the drain bolt.

Local auto parts store but most places sell wix now

This thread went in the wrong direction just posting something other than oem or super expensive stuff if I didn't post pictures people would ask for them.
It's just my 2 cents
And I like to work on my cars all my buddy's I grew up with went the dealer mechanic route and you would cry if u heard some stories...
