Should I stay or should I go?
Question is, simply: Do I purchase/order a first year car with a known issues (CEL, crickets) or just wait?
My current DD is up for sale later this month, in preparation of the FR-s. I have another DD-able ride while the car comes in, so waiting without a modern DD isn't an issue. But before I pull the trigger after I sell my Focus, I read the problem threads and don't enjoy the thought of the new 86 failing on the intial drive. What gives? I will use non ethanol, highest octane I can get. Drive carefully without babying the car. Will this help avoid the issues or is it just 'luck of the draw'? Eric G |
Pull
the trigger |
I would say you should avoid buying any cars period, unless you know of some special make/model that never has issues or problems?!?

If you look at toyota and subaru "sports cars" over the years (celica, mr2, wrx) both makes have a history of a great first model then they start to get bigger and softer over the years. Not saying it will happen here but certainly something to keep in mind.

Apparently, the CEL issue is mainly affecting the "later" built models..

I say buy.

There will always be issues with cars. I've had the last facelift model of the 350z (the 308hp Version) and I had 1 factory recall and 3 "minor" issues that had to be fixed on warranty. Thats just life |
Just get it, no car is ever perfect and thats including exotic. Plus, new car carries warranty and Toyota will issue recall if the problem is widespread. Afterall, toyota has a pretty good reputation on building solid cars.

My car has no problems, plenty of others on here have no problems. Crickets aren't an issue btw; that's the DI.

I have seen several threads asking the same question. So, are peopole actually relying on complete strangers to decide whether they should spend $30K?
I will go against the grain and say wait...until you can decide for yourself. |
Killerbee awesome sig!
Back on topic. I would wait unless you really want the car now. |
I plan on waiting until next years model comes out. It's only what, 7 months away? I can wait and save for mods now :).
I bought a first year Toyota fj and although there were no major changes, I wish I would have waited for the 2nd year model because of all the nice extra features. They made improvements to the engine almost every year as well. Now they are making like 40 more hp than in 2007. With as popular as this car is, I feel Toyota will be making a few changes for next years model. |
DO IT!
Sure you MAY experience a problem or two but that's what warranties are for. I've got one of the early build models and the only issue I've experienced is condensation in one of the tail light assemblies. This hasn't dampened any of the joy I get from driving the little beast. |
This thread is like asking: "Should I date this girl? She's beautiful and amazing in bed. But what if she has problems?"
