Space under rear seat
Don't have my BRZ yet, but I'm trying to plan ahead. I've looked around and only been able to find a few pics that don't tell me much. I'm wondering how much space is there under the rear seat. Thinking of mounting an amp under there for a cleaner install. Anyone had the rear seat off and can comment on how much clearance there is with the seat back in place.

I get the feeling I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say. There isn't any space under the rear seat cushion, well, I plan on running wires under it, but even that will be tight.
Do you mean under the front seats, or maybe in the spare tire well? |
Sorry, I should clarify. If I were to remove the back seat, is there enough room to install an amp and then re-install the back seat.

I havnt taken the seats out but there might be room where the stock amp is located

I was actually thinking the same thing. I was going to check but the bolts on the seat were super tight. I dont feel like doing the work only to find out that theres no space.

Lee, I'm looking at a 4 channel amp + mono block, or a 6 channel. Not sure if 6 would fit in the stock location and if I went with 4 + mono I'd need somewhere to put the 4.

No room. The rear cushions are essentially padding for buckets hammered out of the sheetmetal.
If you get a small enough amp, you could remove the styrofoam at the base of the rear seatback in the trunk and hide it under the trunk floor. If you have to have a large amp, you may have to attach it to the seat back. |
Thanks Draco. I'll probably end up cutting out the foam then.

Im not home im on vacation unless some one does it before i get back ill pull the flooring out of my trunk to show you how much room there is. Its really not much tho

Not to mention the cooling issues you'd have mounting an amp under the rear seat.

From all the room it looks like there is by the rear speakers, I wonder if you could fab up a mount and stick the amp behind the rear side panel?
|
Plenty of room behind the rear speakers. Put the amp behind the panel and replace the speaker with a fan.
