ECUTEK DESKey not working
Anybody have the ECUTEK DESKey stop working? I've had the kit for 5 years and used it only 6-7 times. Yesterday, I got a message saying the driver was not loaded. I tried different usb ports and even a different computer. ECUTEK has not yet responded to an email.
There are replacement DESKeys for sale from $150 to $200 but I'd rather not spend that much $ if I don't have to. Recently, my 2013 FRS (FA24 swapped) developed an intermittent misfire but with no cel and it hasn't set a code. I was hoping to do some data logging to help diagnose the problem. |
What OS are you using? I had no problem using the DESKey on Windows7 but on Windows11, so far I haven't been able to get it to work. I suspect an OS update disabled the driver because it wasn't signed and you need to enable it again.

This morning I got a response from ECUTEK to down load a link that is supposed to fix the problem. I'll find out after work if it works. |

Mine has been working on multiple computers for years. Constantly tumbling around in my center console, being swapped between multiple workstations, etc.
How do you store the key? In a super hot place? |

Ecutek wasn't much help. They suggested reloading their program, which didn't work. They said to contact the vendor, Evasive Mtrsports. I called them Friday morning and explained my situation. I'm still waiting for their guy to return my call. I purchased the kit in 2019 so I'm not too hopeful about a solution that I will be happy with. A local computer company said that, for $155, they would look at it and try to transfer the license to another thumb drive. No guarantee. I've seen replacement licenses for $150-$200. Is there another way to datalog without Ecutek? |

I know recent Windows updates have advanced security options and 1 of them is blocking "known unsafe drivers" . You can try turning those options off and test if it works, I do not recommend keeping them turned off since they really help to keep you safe. Go to Settings, Windows security, Kernel isolation and turn off those 4 options. Restart and try the key again, maybe a reinstall of the software is needed. Just a disclaimer, I do not own a ECUtek key, but I had troubles loading drivers thanks to that MS security toggle. |
A shout out to Evasive Motorsports, where I purchased the Ecutek kit. They are going to ship me a new key at cost.

I got the Deskey and after some fiddling, it's working. I initially got a message saying there was an interface problem. That was solved by updating the interface firmware.
I'm still chasing the intermittent misfire without a cel or code. I drove around for an hour but it would not misbehave. I'm going back out after lunch. |
