OFT won't respond
2014 FRS. I just went back to my original OEM catted header and planned to flash my OFT accordingly. I'm running a Phantom Electric Supercharger with 93 octane and the current tune is for stage 2, which is for catless. I plugged my OFT into my computer and started the manager just to see what I had, and it went through a great many updates, then asked me to approve a new software version. I was concerned at that point because it's been three or four years and I didn't know if the new software would recognize the codes that are on my OFT, so I declined.
I plugged the OFT into the car, but when it tells me to turn on the ignition and press OK for the tune, It won't respond. I tried a stylus and that didn't work either. I can't get to the tunes that are on my OFT. Maybe I don't have any choice but to install the new software on the OFT and hope it will work then. It's pretty worrisome. I don't want to end up with a brick Can anyone advise? |
29 visits and no response. That's not very encouraging. I think I'm dealing with a bad OFT. I recall when I put the last tune in it seized up two or three times and the only way I could get it going again was unplug and plug it back in. So I think if I buy a new OFT and download that file which is available from OFT and which I have in my file manager anyway, I can probably install the proper tune.
Running a tune for catless into a catted header means a rich mixture which might damage the current header, so I better get to it. There's an Ecutek guy here in town. I talked to him and he said they can sometimes fix it but it has a possibility of bricking the ECU as well. |
If you have Facebook there is an open flash tablet FRS/BRZ tuning and support group. You'd probably have more luck on there given forums have slowed down a lot after it bugged out for several months.

Fixed it!
I'm running an ESC, so my starter battery is for a motorcycle. I got to thinking that battery might be a little weary at this point anyway, so I charged it overnight and left it on charge. The tune went through without a hitch.
