CAN Options Connector in Gen 1

IIRC the car has several CAN Busses.

Does the CAN options connector behind the radio have all the same data as the CAN Wires on the OBD2 port?

Trying to figure out where to tap in for AIM SOLO2 DL

Responding mostly because I also want to know.

However, CAN is a "bus" meaning that, if there is a connector behind the radio, it's all the same CAN bus. My understanding is that CAN bus is a protocol based communication method and the wiring should be consistent.

But, I'll let more knowledgeable people respond.

I believe so but cannot confirm. I have a GJP Trac-box hooked up via the connector behind the radio and run my SoloDL off the standard OBD2 port.

I run an AIM SOLO 2 DL from the option connector; no issues with the AIM data profile

I just run it off of the OBD2 port

There is only one network on a stock gen 1, so wherever you pick up your CAN Hi / Lo will have the same data.

Since this post will inevitably come up in the future via Google search or whatever - if you have something like a motor swap with Haltech you will want to connect your data logger to the second Haltech network, not the chassis one. The relevant chassis messages like individual wheel speeds will be available in the Haltech broadcast protocol alongside the usual Haltech messages with things like coolant temp, oil pressure, etc.

Cars can have multiple busses. Apparently the Gen 1 BRZ only has one though. IIRC the gen 2 has multiple, that was the basis for the question. I used to have a gen2 and have moved to a gen1.

For the next person who finds this thread. I ended up running off the option connector as well. I have a GJP trac-box so I ended up just making the GJP harness that goes from the options connector to the tracbox into a Y harness with the AIM cable cable as well. Nice and tidy.

Good stuff, thanks!

That's good to point out. Not long after I posted, I realized that some cars have multiples. Apparently, the Link ECU I run has two CAN interfaces.
