Aluminum driveshaft in race applications
 
Does anyone have one? How does it hold up? Any additional wear on the trans from being one piece? Any issues with critical speed?

Can’t believe this was 3 years ago @blsfrs . I did call DSS about this after since I was having massive vibration issues. I think they said they would redo the shaft with a different diameter at my cost and paying shipping. I passed on it. I think mine is still in my garage.

their solution was to sell you a one at your cost?

Thanks for bringing this up. I was considering going one piece but given the potential headaches I'll think I'll pass.

Aluminum takes up much more space, is more prone to failure (in an aftermarket application), Not to mention is scary if it does fail.

Carbon fiber or stock, in my opinion. I love my verus driveshaft but it's an early model when the company was still velox, I don't know what current variant feels like but it can't be too different.
You can feel the spring a little when you're shifting hard vs a solid thunk, but may be mostly placebo

I deleted the email a long time ago but I think it was like 300+ for them to redo the shaft in a bigger diameter, no guarantee it would clear, and I would have to pay shipping back and forth.

A while ago, I think someone posted that the Gen 2 drive shaft was a little bit lighter.

Aluminum has 1/3 the elastic modulus of steel, but you make up for it by making it significantly thicker-walled. Larger OD with 2x wall thickness and you easily get the same stiffness with less weight vs. steel.

Anyway, as in the other thread I'd recommend checking with Inland Empire Driveline, they made a custom drive shaft for my LS3 FD RX-7 rated to 200 mph in short order and price was not bad.
