Noob to wheels! :(
So im going to be ordering Sparco Assetto 17"x8 and was wondering should i stick with the recommended tire size of 225/45/17. i mean will that be flush with the back and front? i will be doing some autox. seems like the perfect size imo.. thanks for the help!

225 is the "right" size for 8" wheel but you could run 235's, maybe 245's depending on brand, and be fine (better for autox). As far as "flush", that's an issue of your wheel offset. I don't know what offset makes you flush on this car yet, but I do know that it will be staggered. I think there is sticky with offset information.

For autox i wouldn't worry about being flush, you could run spacers on the back on the street if you want it to look more flush.

I drive 225/45-17 on 17x8. If you plan to Autocross I would definitly go to 235/40-17. You get 10 mm wider tires and more sideways grip, the gearing is slightly better and for the most popular AutoX tire, Dunlop Starspecs the 235/40 is 2 lbs lighter than the 225/45. Others may tell you that is worth going to 245s as well. I would guess you sacrifice some steering feel if you put 245s in front of this light car.

Thanks. |
you'll want more tire if possible to handle more hp. I'd go 235's over 225's all day long. To be honest.. if you got up to 270hp.. you'd probably want 245's.

I wouldn't be afraid to go to 235's. It looks better too. It was two reasons why went for 225's. I was eager to try the Michelin Supersports and they don't come in 235/40, and the place I plan to export the car, wide tires on a light car is bad due to a lot of tracks in the roads.
For street driving and looks, a staggered setup could be nice, e.g. 225 Front + 255 Rear |
