MR2 owners - suspension experience
Hi,
I am thinking about to upgrade my suspension with some Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs but I donīt want a too stiff setup because of my harassed back :) What are you experience with this setup?! Would you recommend it or would you prefer others?! |
There are a quite a few MR2 owners on this board who can probably help you out. Your car has a wide selection of aftermarket support so don't rush it and choose carefully.

donīt worry! I drilled down the market for a while, I just need some empirical values!
|
im currently on just Tein S.tech springs and the ride is pretty comfortable.. though ive never been in an mr2 with eibach springs, ive been in my friends honda with eibachs and the ride is hella rough
|
hm...I heard the opposite! Isnīt it that teinīs are stiffer?!
|
Coilovers out of your budget?
|
^^I donīt understand your question!
|
hearing and feeling are two different things... but i did just remember that he had the eibach *edit* sportline

also, over at the mr2 forum, people seem to be content with koni yellows. ive driven an mr2 with gr-2 struts which were a little too stiff for my tastes.. i guess what im trying to say is, go with what you feel based on reviews and hear say. if you're not mixin and matching different set-ups, then you're not really lookin for a good suspension set :D

I've used Eibach Prokit and Sportlines on my MR2s, which have all been 1993 or later.
The Prokits are not much different from stock, slightly stiffer and just barely shorter. The Sportlines are a good bit lower and somewhat stiffer but not bad at all. I've had good luck with Bilstein shocks on MR2s. They're firm but comfortable. |
I like it rough. Can't help you out. Sorry.

I had Bilstein HD (same part numbers printed on the discontinued TRD struts) with TRD springs. It was noticeably stiffer than stock and while I liked it, I can't imagine anyone with a bad back enjoying it. Keep in mind if you lower your car you'll need stiffer struts for lastability. The lower you go, the stiffer the struts you'll need; it's up to you how much you want to your back to suffer.
Bilstein HD stiffness is overkill for this car (the HD line is used mostly for trucks). I recommend Bilstein TC struts if you can still find them. They came standard from the factory on the late model year JDM models (sometime around '96-'98). I'm not sure how well matched they are to springs shorter than OEM from those model years but do a search on MR2OC.com; some people there had those struts. |
what's your budget?
